Mill Installs New Rebar Coiling Line
11/23/2016 - An upgrade to an eastern European mill's rebar line has passed performance tests, according the equipment vendor on the project.
According to SMS group, the project at ArcelorMittal Zenica in Bosnia and Herzegovina entailed the installation of a so-called Vertical Compact Coiler, which is designed to produce 60 tons of compact rebar coils per hour.
SMS said its Vertical Compact Coiler line features state-of-the art spooling technology that allows finished product to be spooled in-line into compact coils.
“Nowadays, processors require stable, compact and easy-to-process coils. This means that many conventional plants with wire rod blocks and laying heads are more and more often required to recoil their hot-rolled coils into compact coils. With the new VCC line, ArcelorMittal Zenica can now produce compact coils directly in-line in a fully automatic process, which minimizes human supervisory work during production,” SMS said in a statement.
SMS said the new line will improve production time and cut labor costs.
