Mike Engestrom Receives AISC Lifetime Achievement Award

The Steel Market Development Institute (SMDI) congratulates Michael F. Engestrom, technical marketing director, Nucor-Yamato Steel, who is being presented with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC). He will receive the award at the 2013 NASCC: The Steel Conference, which is being held this week at America's Center Convention Complex in St. Louis, Mo.
Engestrom is being recognized for "his tireless efforts over more than four decades promoting the use of structural steel and for his support of AISC's technical and market development activities on both the mill and committee levels."
Engestrom serves on several SMDI committees and is also chairman of the Short Span Steel Bridge Alliance (SSSBA), which provides essential information to bridge owners and designers on the unique benefits, innovative designs, cost-competitiveness and performance related to using steel in short span installations up to 140 feet in length. SSSBA partners comprise bridge and culvert industry leaders, including manufacturers, fabricators and representatives of related associations and government organizations.

SMDI grows and maintains the use of steel through strategies that promote cost-effective solutions in the automotive, construction and container markets, as well as for new growth opportunities in emerging steel markets.
