Mexican, Indian Companies Partner to Develop Micro-Mills for Long Product Production in Americas
05/13/2014 - Mexico's PMP Grupo (Planeación, Mantenimiento y Proyectos) and India’s Preet Machines Limited have formed a commercial alliance to boost the construction of micro-mills for the recycling and transformation of scrap iron in the USA, Mexico and Canada, as well as other countries in Latin America.
The announcement was made during the AISTech Iron & Steel Technology Conference and Exposition 2014.
During this event, which provides a global prospective on the technology and engineering expertise necessary to power a sustainable steel industry, the companies announced the installation of MicroSteel Meltshop Technology facilities. Each one will count with an investment of US$40–100 million dollars, and generate 200 to 400 direct jobs.
According to estimations by PMP Grupo and Preet, each unit will be able to generate around US$6–8 million dollars annually for each 100,000 tons of scrap iron.
The MicroSteel Meltshop Technology facilities will capture and transform scrap iron to recycle and transform it. As commodities, the final products are sold at lower prices and for a greater profit if they don’t have to be moved great distances. This is the reason the companies plan to develop the plants at the most convenient locations across the USA, Canada, Mexico, and other Latin American countries.
The commercial alliance between both companies will achieve the recycling of this scrap material into final products at competitive prices, reducing the need to import these products from countries such as China.
The proposal for these mills is the one in Latin America and the countries that integrate NAFTA. This will allow the region to achieve greater competitiveness globally.
PMP Grupo is a Mexican company, established in 1990, which provides solutions for the steel industry. It specializes in commercialization, manufacturing, and services, focused on developing technology and innovative solutions for the handling of steel material and equipment. The company works with three leader brands: Arko furnaces, SK cranes, and Chicago Blower fans.
Preet Machines Limited is an Indian company involved in the design and manufacture of more than 200 mills, and 33 different industrial solutions, with clients form South America, Africa, Iran, Iraq, United Arab Emirates, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Malaysia.
