Metinvest’s Ilyich Iron and Steel Works Restarts Pipe Electric Welding Shop
03/17/2015 - The pipe electric welding shop of Metinvest Group’s Ilyich Iron & Steel Works of Mariupol, Ukraine, which suspended operations in the second half of December 2014, will now be relaunched and operate at full capacity.
The plant will produce 6,500 tons of electric welded pipes with more than 20 different dimension profiles. These products will be sold domestically in Ukraine and in the CIS. Eighty-five percent of these pipes will be available to retail customers in all regions of Ukraine via Metinvest-SMC.
The shop’s relaunch marks the completion of an investment project that cost more than UAH 8.5 million. A new generator made by Thermatool was installed on pipe welding line RD-115. Thermatool is a leading international producer of equipment for pipe welding lines.
The new generator will increase the productivity of the pipe welding line and secure buffer capacity for further modernization to expand the assortment of finished goods produced there. Ilyich Iron & Steel Works of Mariupol plans to start making electric welded pipe with a diameter of 127 mm and welded shaped profiles with dimensions of 100х100 mm.
