Metinvest's Azovstal Supplying Challenging Order to Indian Customer
04/21/2014 - Metinvest Group’s Azovstal Iron & Steel Works is working on a challenging order — the company will produce 10,000 tons of X70 rolled pipe plates with improved mechanical properties for an Indian customer.
The challenge was caused by out-of-size dimensions of the rolled products. According to the customer requirements, the plates thickness should only be 10.7 mm and the width 3,289 mm. Previously, Azovstal had never produced such large and thin rolled plates.
Rolling mill personnel have figured out the special chemical content of the steel and ensured products in full compliance with the high customer requirements and mechanical properties. To solve the issue of the rolled product dimensions, the specialists have adjusted the optimum set of rolls for the roughing and finishing stands of the mill.
Director general of PJSC Azovstal Iron & Steel Works, Enver Tskitishvili, commented, “Azovstal’s employees are professionals with a capital P. People are our advantage in the competitive struggle in the steel market. It was already clear from the test rolling that the production order will in fact be a challenging task. However, due to the proper decisions, harmonious and exquisite workmanship, high qualification of the plate mill rollers and operators, we have already produced 4,500 tons of Х70 pipe plates and we will complete the order in April.”
