Metinvest Revamps MMKI Heat Station No. 1

At the first heat station of MMKI, part of Metinvest Group, large-scale construction of turboblower No. 3 was accomplished and commissioned on June 21. It will increase productivity at the No. 3 blast furnace by 7% and reduce coke consumption to 7 kg/tonne of hot metal. The cost of the project was US$31 million.
Among the technological equipment of Heat Station-1 the No. 3 turboblower will be the most up-to-date. The 19 MW turbine and compressor (with the production capacity 4000 m3/min), will improve the quality of the blast furnace shop, increase productivity and ensure stable operation of the BFs.
Taking into account that, at present, eight air blowers are already working at the Heat Station-1, technicians found a way to implement proven, efficient, high-power computerized turbines compatible with the already existing equipment.
“Commissioning of the new turboblower is only the first stage of the integrated program of the technological revamp of the works through 2020. In the near future it is planned to repair the 5th and 6th blowers at the Heat Station-1,” pointed out Head of the Works, Vladimir Boyko. Start-up of the turboblower-3н will provide the blast furnace shop with more than 4000 m3 of blast and will allow for a more flexible maintenance system. It will also provide the necessary conditions for the development of the blast furnace shop.
