Metinvest Holds Anniversary Meeting with Partners
06/24/2011 - Metinvest recently held a reception for representatives of Ukrainian and international business in celebration of the company’s fifth anniversary.
Metinvest recently held a reception for representatives of Ukrainian and international business in celebration of the company’s fifth anniversary. The event convened the heads of several investment companies and banks, suppliers, clients and partners of Metinvest, as well as representatives of international organizations, government officials and regional authorities.
Metinvest’s purpose for the meeting was to strengthen personal and partnership relationships with the international business, and to present company’s vision and strategy for further development.
Rinat Akhmetov, President of SCM Company, addressed the audience with a welcoming speech.
“We have an ambitious goal – we want the salaries at Metinvest’s plants to be the highest in the world!” stated Akhmetov. “But in order to achieve that we must win the world cup in cost efficiency, the world cup in quality of products, and the world cup in sales. This is what we trust in and what we all aspire to, as we strongly believe that both Ukraine and each and every Ukrainian will benefit from Metinvest' success”.
Vadim Novinskiy, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Smart-Holding, in his speech addressed the professionalism of the Metinvest team and thanked all Metinvest's employees.
Metinvest CEO Igor Syry commented on the company’s future plans. “Today we produce 15M tonnes of crude steel a year. But in several years we are going to double our steel output. We will conduct a full-scale modernization of our production facilities. We will attain leadership in production efficiency and product quality. We will introduce cutting-edge production technologies and become a leader in health and environmental safety at our plants.”
Metinvest, an international vertically integrated mining and steel company, owns 24 assets in Ukraine, Europe and the United States. The company manages each link of the production chain, from iron ore, coal mining and coke production to semi-finished and finished steel production, including the manufacture of plate and coil, pipe rolling, shapes and bars and other value-added products.
Metinvest is the largest iron ore producer in Ukraine, and was the sixth-largest producer globally in 2009. Metinvest is ranked amongst the ten largest steel plate producers in the world, placed 28th largest steel producer in the world according to World Steel Association and the second largest producer of steel in Ukraine, having produced 24.0% of all steel manufactured in the country in 2009. In November 2010 Metinvest acquired Ilyich Steel, one of the largest steelmaking companies in Ukraine.
