Mechel Suspends Work at Several Facilities in Two Southern Kuzbass Mines

Mechel OAO reported that work was suspended at several facilities at two of Southern Kuzbass Coal Company’s mines.

The suspension decision follows a check conducted at Lenin Underground and New-Olzherassk mines by the Mezhdurechensk territorial branch of the Southern Siberian department of the Federal Agency for Ecological, Technological and Nuclear Monitoring. As a result of the safety check, work at some of the mines’ facilities was suspended by order of the Mezhdurechensk city court.

According to the company, most of the monitoring agency’s requirements have been met as of now. Within Lenin Underground and New-Olzherassk mines’ mining sections, the gas and dust conditions meet safety standards.

The company noted that it is planning to resume mining at all facilities of Lenin Underground and New-Olzherassk mines within the next few days.
