Mechel Reports Progress on Development Program for Mechel Service OOO

Mechel OAO has deployed production and service equipment at its Mechel Service OOO sales subsidiary branches within the scope of its ongoing development program.

As part of its 2008 development program, Mechel Service recently launched equipment for straightening and cutting off wire reinforcing bar at Yekaterinburg, Krasnodar, Saint-Petersburg, Sochi and Chelyabinsk. This upgrade has allowed the service and sales company to extend its range of services at its warehouses, such as offering reinforcing bar cut at precisely specified length. Mechel Service’s production capacity of such equipment at all of its branches totals 1500 to 2000 tonnes of processed rolled products per month.

Regional projects under implementation include the reconstruction of production and warehousing complexes in Yekaterinburg and Ufa. This expansion will help the company to increase its regional market share, further improve customer service, and continue to extend the range of products sold.

This year, Mechel Service intends to complete the installation of an automatic line for welded mesh production in the Moscow region, enabling the capacity of 1200 to 1500 tonnes per month. Within the scope of its own regional production and warehousing network development, Mechel Service is also considering an opportunity of acquisition of several real estate properties in the largest Russian cities.

Mechel, one of the leading Russian mining and metals companies, unites producers of coal, iron ore, nickel, steel, rolled products, and hardware. Its business includes three segments—mining, steel, and power—and its products are marketed domestically and internationally.
