Mechel OAO Announces New Appointments

Mechel OAO announced a number of new executive appointments effective immediately, including Vladimir Polin who will now serve as Senior Vice President of Mechel OAO. In his new position, Polin (46) will carry out management of the Group’s management companies and subholdings.
 
Polin has been a member of Mechel OAO’s Board of Directors since 2007, serving also as CEO of Mechel Management Co. OOO from 2006 to 2008. From 2003 to 2006, he was Senior Vice President—Production of Mechel OAO. From 2002 to 2003, he served as the Executive Director—First Deputy General Director of Mechel’s Beloretsk Metallurgical Plant subsidiary, and from 2001 to 2002 he served as the Director for Sales of Mechel’s Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant subsidiary. Polin has nearly 20 years of production-floor, marketing and management experience in the metals business, and he holds a degree in metallurgy from the Chelyabinsk Polytechnic University.
 
Polin will be replaced as CEO of Mechel Management OOO by Andrey Deineko (55), who was Mechel OAO’s Steel Division Director from January to December 2008. Prior to his appointment as Steel Division Director, Deineko was Deputy Director and Director of the Department of Industry in the Russian Ministry of Industry and Energy from 2004 to 2007. He was Director of the Department of Industrial and Innovative Policy in the Russian Ministry of Industry and Science from 2002 to 2004, and from 1999 to 2002, he was Deputy General Director of Oskol Electrometallurgical Plant OAO. He held the position of Deputy General Director of INTERFIN Interbank Investment and Finance Company ZAO from 1998 to 1999 and Director of Supply Division of Zapad-Elite ZAO from 1997 to 1998. From 1976 to 1997, he held increasingly responsible positions including Engineer, Senior Engineer, Senior Researcher, Laboratory Head, Department Head, and Deputy Director at the Bardin Central Scientific and Research Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy, and was ultimately awarded the title of Honorable Metallurgist. Deineko graduated from the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys with the specialty of Engineer of Metallurgy.
 
Mechel also announced the appointment of Gennadiy Ovchinnikov (57) as CEO of Mechel Ferroalloys Management Co. OOO. In his new position, Ovchinnikov will be in charge of operational management of subsidiaries of Mechel’s Ferroalloy Division. Previously, he was Managing Director of Mechel’s Southern Urals Nickel Plant (2006-2008) and General Director of Southern Urals Nickel Plant (2005-2006). From 2004 to 2005, he held the position of a leading specialist of Mechel OAO’s Technical Section, and from 2001 to 2004, he served as the Head of Concentration and Agglomeration Office, Chief Concentration Engineer, and Head of Mining and Technology Department of the West Siberian Iron and Steel Plant.
 
From 1974 to 2001, Ovchinnikov held increasingly responsible production and managerial positions at the Sintering Plant of the Kuznetsk Metallurgical Plant, including Chief Engineer, Director of the Plant, Head of the Scientific and Technical Information Division, and Head of the Marketing Department. Ovchinnikov graduated from the Magnitogorsk Mining and Metallurgical Institute with a degree in Mining Process Engineering. He obtained his post-graduate degree in technical sciences, and was ultimately awarded the title of Honorable Metallurgist.
 
Alexey Ivanushkin (46), who was CEO of Mechel Ferroalloys Management Co. OOO concurrently with his duties as Chief Operating Officer of Mechel OAO, will continue to fulfill the functions of strategic management of the ferroalloy holding Oriel Resources Ltd.
