Mechel Indicates Interest in Oriel Resources Company

Mechel OAO has announced an interest in acquiring Oriel Resources Plc.
London-based Oriel Resources mines and processes chrome and nickel. The company’s key assets include a smelter at Tikhvin, a chrome project at Voskhod, and a nickel project at Shevchenko.
Mechel notes that, while it is contemplating the acquisition of Oriel, the evaluation process is still at an early stage. Mechel said there can be no certainty that an offer will ultimately occur.
Mechel, one of the leading Russian mining and metals companies, unites producers of coal, iron ore, nickel, steel, rolled products, and hardware. Mechel products are marketed domestically and internationally.
