Market Debut: Truly Green Diode Laser for Projections in Harsh Environments
06/16/2015 - The laser specialists LAP from Lüneburg have developed a truly green diode laser which can withstand even the most harsh industry conditions – the first of its kind.
During manual processing of materials and components, green laser beams can be more quickly and reliably detected than red lasers, which are currently the industry standard.
"Previously, DPSS (Diode Pumped Solid State) modules were used as light sources for laser systems with green laser beams. However, purely diode-based technology is more robust and durable. Until now, though, no manufacturers have supplied green diode lasers suitable for use in industry," explains Caren Lüdemann, Sales Manager at LAP. "Our aim was to bring a truly innovative product to the market: a green diode laser which can withstand harsh industry conditions and which has a long service life." The result is the HD green range – their green laser beams are much easier to detect by the human eye than red beams when they are projected onto wet, dark, or patterned surfaces.
Service life doubled: 20,000 potential operating hours
The HD green diode laser is efficient and durable: With a maximum output of 40 milliwatts, a projection of up to 30-meter-long lines can be achieved. Alternatively, points or crosses can be projected. "While lasers with DPSS technology have a service life between 3,000 and 10,000 operating hours, the HD green from LAP boasts over 20,000," states Lüdemann.
This extraordinary result is thanks to LAP's very own research and development department in Lüneburg, where engineers have been working on laser technology for over 30 years. "They have carried out long-term testing of the new lasers in both cold and heat chambers within a temperature range of -10 to 40 degrees Celsius, confirming the long service life of over 20,000 hours." Because the diode lasers cost little more than a DPSS laser, the investment quickly pays off.

For 30 years, LAP has been developing and manufacturing laser-based systems for high-precision projection of lines and contours in industry and medicine as well as for contactless measurement of geometric parameters including position, width, thickness, length, and diameter of products in industrial production.
LAP supplies both standard components and customer-specific solutions. Components and complex systems can be designed according to customer specifications. The services of LAP range from the planning and development via the design, programming, and production to the commissioning and service.
