“I am excited to work with SMA membership and staff to confront the challenges and embrace the opportunities that face our industry,” said Millett.

“The SMA is uniquely positioned to represent electric arc furnace steel producers, who over the last 30 years have emerged as the dominant force in North American steelmaking with the lowest CO₂ emissions in the world. Success will include our collective efforts to articulate the policy implications and impacts of a strong domestic steel industry,” he added. 

Millett is a co-founder of SDI. He has held a variety of senior management positions and has served on the board of directors since SDI’s inception in 1993. 

In addition, Bob Venable, president and chief operating officer of Charter Manufacturing Co., was elected vice chairman; Kevin Mullen, president of Sterling Steel Co. LLC, will serve as treasurer; and Dave Sumoski, chief operating officer of Nucor Corp., becomes SMA’s immediate past chairman.
