Management Shuffle Continues at U. S. Steel

United States Steel Corp. announced two key management changes. David J. Rintoul has been named General Manager of Granite City Works in Ill., succeeding Michael A. Fedorenko, who has been appointed General Manager—Engineering. Both appointments are effective July 16.
 
In his new position, Fedorenko, 52, will oversee engineering projects at all of U. S. Steel's domestic operations and will report to Anthony R. Bridge, Vice President—Engineering and Technology.
 
Fedorenko, 52, began his career with U. S. Steel in 1976, advancing through a series of engineering positions at operations in Pennsylvania and Ohio. In 1986, he moved into the purchasing department at the company's headquarters in Pittsburgh; in 1988, he was promoted to Manager—Purchasing at Fairless Works. In 1990, he was transferred to Fairfield Works where he served as Manager—Engineering. In 1996, he was named Senior Area Manager—Sheet Products, and in 1998, he was named Division Manager—Utilities, Shops and Services. He returned to Pittsburgh in 2000, when he was named Plant Manager of Mon Valley Works' Irvin Plant.
 
In September 2003, Fedorenko was named Vice President—Technology at U. S. Steel Kosice (USSK) in the Slovak Republic, and in March 2005 was appointed Vice President & General Director of U. S. Steel Serbia, doo and affiliated companies. He was named General Manager of Granite City Works in May 2006.
 
Fedorenko graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1976 with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
 
In his new position, Rintoul, 50, will manage the day-to-day operations of Granite City Works, U. S. Steel's integrated steelmaking operation near St. Louis. He will report to George F. Babcoke, Vice President—Plant Operations.
 
Rintoul brings to U. S. Steel a broad range of steelmaking expertise and experience gained during 30 years working in the steel industry. He began his steelmaking career in 1979 in plate and strip rolling and finishing operations at Algoma Steel Corp. where he rose through increasingly responsible assignments to the position of Superintendent. In 1993, he joined Rouge Steel Corp. as Superintendent of the Cold Mill. Rintoul moved to Acme Steel Co. in 1995 as Manager—Hot Strip Mill at the company's Compact Strip Plant. He became General Manager of the Compact Strip Plant in 1997, and later, General Manager—Steel Manufacturing (1999), a position he held until he was named Vice President of Operations at North Star BlueScope Steel in 2001. In 2005, he became Vice President of Operations at BlueScope's Butler Manufacturing Co. in Kansas City, Mo., his most recent position before joining U. S. Steel.
 
Rintoul earned an associate's degree in mechanical engineering technology from Sault College of Applied Arts and Technology in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, in 1979. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in business administration from Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., in 1983, and received a master's degree in business administration from the University of Notre Dame in 2006.
