LNG Terminal Selects Outokumpu Stainless Rebar for Project
06/10/2016 - Finnish stainless producer Outokumpu supplied approximately 10 metric tons of stainless rebar for a liquefied natural gas project along the North Sea coast, the company said on Friday.
Outokumpu said the rebar was used in a spill basin at the Gas Access to Europe terminal in Rotterdam.
“If you’re working with cryogenic concrete, the rebar must be stainless steel. It is the only thing you can use. Nothing else will work,” said Outokumpu stainless steel rebar agent for the Benelux Union and Germany.
The rebar was rolled from Outokumpu’s Core 304LN/4311 stainless, which, like all austenitic stainless steel, maintains its ductility at extremely cold temperatures.
Liquefied natural gas is essentially methane gas that is cooled to the point that it become liquid – approximately 260 degrees Fahrenheit below zero.
