Liepajas Metalurgs is temporarily stopping production for a five day period, from 10–15 April 2013, due to a decline in rebar orders caused by the economic situation in Europe.
The company says it is producing products only for specific orders and not accumulating finished products. The plant is no longer operating in a continuous production cycle as it was in February this year, but according to a defined production schedule which is determined on a weekly basis.
The company says work payments to employees will be “provided in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Latvia.”
JSC Liepajas metalurgs, based in Latvia, is the only metallurgical company in the Baltic States. It manufactures low carbon and low alloyed steel products, including rebar, wire, nails and castings.
