Liberty Steel To Invest US$25 Million in New EAF, Improvements to Georgetown Works
10/07/2019 - Liberty Steel USA will install a new electric arc furnace at its Georgetown, S.C., wire rod mill and make other improvements to its meltshop, the company has announced.
“We have a very efficient rolling mill at Georgetown and we now want to put a world-class meltshop behind it so we can achieve our goal to become the leading supplier of wire rod to the region and secure the long-term future of the site,” said Liberty Steel USA chief executive Michael Setterdahl in a statement.
The company said improvements new electrical systems, upgrades to its water and natural gas supply and installation of ancillary equipment to support improved melt shop operations, along with environmental permits for modifications to regulated processes.
Mill equipment supplier Danieli has been chosen to design and execute the project.
Work is anticipated to take six to nine months to complete following the permit phase.
