LIBERTY Steel Sets Management Board, Names U.S. Leadership
04/16/2020 - LIBERTY Steel Group has assembled a board of directors to steer the business and named two industry veterans to oversee operations in Europe and the U.S.
In an announcement Thursday, the company said founder Sanjeev Gupta will serve as executive chairman and chief executive. His No. 2 will be Arnaud de Weert, who will serve as chief operating officer.
Overseeing Australia and the U.S. will be Daksesh Patel, who will continue in his parallel role as executive director and chief executive of InfraBuild in Australia. Meanwhile, former ArcelorMittal executive Roland Junck will oversee LIBERTY Steel in the U.K. and continental Europe.
As part of the new management structure, Greg Jones has been named chief executive of LIBERTY Steel USA. Jones has been with LIBERTY Steel and its predecessor businesses in Australia for 13 years working in senior financial and commercial positions, most recently as managing director for InfraBuild Wire.
The consolidated LIBERTY Steel Group will be incorporated in Singapore and have a fiscal end-of-year on 31 March 2020.
Gupta said the immediate focus of the LIBERTY Steel Group board will be to weather the economic storm brought about by the COVID-19 crisis and ensure the business is prepared for the eventual recovery.
“This is an important step as we complete the consolidation of GFG Alliance’s steel businesses into LIBERTY Steel Group. I’m proud of the leadership team we’ve brought together, which comprises some of the most experienced names in the global metals industry,” Gupta said.
