LIBERTY Steel Resumes Operation at Rotherham Plant at Night
10/28/2021 - The company, which is part of GFG Alliance, announced today it has restarted production at the Rotherham plant in Yorkshire, U.K., running overnight when energy costs are less expensive.
According to Reuters, earlier this month a lobby group for Britain's steel industry warned that plants could be forced to shut if they did not receive help to cope with spikes in energy prices.
The company said in a statement that the Rotherham operations “are scheduled to run between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. when energy costs will be comparatively lower.”
LIBERTY aims for the facility to reach an output of 50,000 metric tons per month through this restart.
The company announced earlier this month that it would bring the Rotherham and Stocksbridge plants on-line with a £50 million cash injection.
The Stocksbridge specialty steel operation is also restarting “focused” production for key customers, according to Reuters.
