Liberty House Expands Roster of Mills Yet Again

In a statement, Liberty House said it is acquiring ArcelorMittal’s Dudelange plant in Luxembourg; its  Flemalle galvanizing facility in Belgium and its Tilleur pickling, cold rolling and tin packaging facility, also in Belgium.

The deal will give Liberty House 2.1 million metric tons of cold rolling capacity,   2 million tons of galvanizing capacity and 200,000 tons of tinplate capacity.

ArcelorMittal is divesting the assets as part of an agreement with European regulators, who had raised competition concerns over its acquisition of Italy’s ILVA. ArcelorMittal last month sold four other facilities to Liberty House as part of that agreement with regulators.

Liberty House is part of the GFG Alliance, a group of varied businesses that belong to the Gupta family.

Jay Hambro, GFG Alliance’s chief investment officer, said the acquisition gives the company an even bigger role in the European steel industry.

“These plants are an important and logical addition to our expanding, integrated European supply chain. By entering these key markets and expanding our footprint, we’re embedding our European presence and bolstering our competitive position internationally,” said Hambro.
