Lawsuit Threat Looms Over Nucor Steel Marion Plant Emissions
11/05/2012 - Nucor Steel Marion could face a lawsuit because of increased levels of manganese and arsenic in the air and soil that a team of attorneys says are the result of emissions from the company’s steel mill, according to the Marion Star.

Ed Cochran, a Cleveland attorney, said he and two other law firms are inviting residents to join a lawsuit they plan to file against Nucor, which the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency determined committed permitting, monitoring and emission violations related to an electric arc furnace it upgraded in 2008. The OEPA in its findings and orders did not determine Nucor emitted elevated levels of manganese. The agency asked the company to monitor its manganese emissions, but the request was not made because of any notice of violations relating specifically to manganese...
