Lakshmi Mittal Awarded Honorary Doctorate from Krakow University
01/21/2013 - Lakshmi N. Mittal, chairman and CEO of the ArcelorMittal group was awarded with an honorary doctorate from the Academic Senate of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow, Poland.
Lakshmi N. Mittal, chairman and CEO of the ArcelorMittal group, which has a plant in Ostrava, Czech Republic, was awarded with an honorary doctorate. Mr. Mittal received the Doctor Honoris Causa title from the Academic Senate of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow, Poland. The ceremony was also attended by academics from VŠB – Technical University of Ostrava.
As stated in the explanatory report, Lakshmi Mittal received the honorary title for “his contribution to the strategic development and consolidation of the steel industry globally, restructuring and modernization of the steel industry in Poland, and long-term support of AGH scientific work and promotion of AGH University, as well as enabling students to improve their practical knowledge and offering attractive workplaces to graduates.” The resolution to award Mr. Mittal with the title was passed by the AGH Senate on 31 October 2012. The proposal came from Prof. Miroslaw Karbowniczek from the Faculty of Metals Engineering and it was consulted by the Senates of the Czestochowa University of Technology and the Silesian University of Technology.
ArcelorMittal Ostrava also supports the local technical university on a long-term basis. The plant cooperates with VŠB – Technical University Ostrava on scientific and research projects, conference and publication activities, and supports excellent students’ theses. This enables students and academic staff to apply their knowledge directly in practical conditions.
