Lakeside Steel Breaks Ground on New Alabama Facility

Construction of Lakeside Steel Inc.’s new pipe manufacturing facility in Thomasville, Ala., has officially begun. The new facility will be one of the most modern pipe manufacturing operations in North America, according to Lakeside Steel, and will significantly expand its production footprint.

Jesco Inc., a division of the Yates Companies Inc., has been awarded the contract to act as general contractor on the construction of the new facility.

Lakeside Steel noted that all necessary permits have been secured to allow the construction to commence on schedule. The construction phase is expected to be substantially completed by April 2011, at which time the installation and commissioning of manufacturing equipment is expected to begin.

The new mill is anticipated to be in production by December 2011. Once operational, the new facility will produce casing and line pipe products for use in the OCTG sector in sizes from 4.5 inches to 10.75 inches in lengths of up to 60 feet.

The Thomasville facility will be operated by Lakeside Steel Alabama Inc., an indirect wholly owned subsidiary of the company.
