U.S.-based Microtrac manufactures instruments for particle analysis using laser diffraction and dynamic light-scattering technologies. Japan-based MicrotracBEL makes instruments for surface area and porosity analysis.

“With Microtrac and MicrotracBEL, two technological leaders in particle and surface analysis are united under the roof of Verder Scientific. Both companies will have access to additional resources to push international expansion and extend its innovative product range,” said Verder Scientific chief executive Jürgen Pankratz. 

The acquisition is expected to generate approximately EUR35 million in new annual revenues and will add about 150 employees to Verder Scientific’s workforce.

“Microtrac and MicrotracBEL will benefit immediately from the direct market access of Verder in key countries worldwide and from synergies with the other product lines of Verder Scientific,” the company said.

Verder said the acquired businesses will retain their respective headquarters and management teams.
