Krakatau Posco Organizes CSR Activities

Krakatau Posco, a joint venture between Posco and Indonesia’s largest state-owned steelmaker, Krakatau Steel, recently held corporate social responsibility activities in the Kubangsari region of Cilegon City.

Residents of Kubangsari, which is adjacent to the future Krakatau Posco plant, are suffering from noise and dust caused by nearby construction.

The companies organized corporate social responsibility activities at the Kubangsari 1 National Elementary School, including cleaning and painting the school. Korean and local employees, including President Kim Dong-ho of Krakatau Posco, HR Director Alugoro, Technology and Development Director Novial, joined in the clean-up efforts.

Manager Zainal Muttagien explained that the employees’ volunteer work was based on a sisterhood relationship with local residents and would contribute the municipal government’s efforts in promoting a “clean city.”

Students at the school responded with enthusiasm, watching the volunteers with interest and expressing excitement about the school’s new look. “I think Koreans are very friendly,” said a fourth-grader in an interview. “They talked to me. There were a lot of things I wanted to say, but I couldn`t speak Korean. I want to learn Korean. Can you send us books on learning Korean?”

President Kim promised that Posco Krakatau would offer more local opportunities to volunteer.
