Korea Iron & Steel Association Celebrates Annual Steel Day
06/18/2010 - The Korea Iron & Steel Association recently held a ceremony for the annual Steel Day at the Posco Center to demonstrate support for development and unity of the domestic steel industry.
The Korea Iron & Steel Association (KOSA) had a ceremony commemorating the 11th Steel Day, wishing for the development and unity of the steel industry, at the POSCO Center. The June 9th celebration was attended by with approximately 300 guests including Chairman Chung and other steel industry CEOs.
“The steel industry must have a creative mind and stick together to maintain the industry’s growth despite difficult situations and take this as an opportunity for a new leap forward,” said Chairman Chung in his greetings.
At the ceremony, Hyundai Steel CEO Yu-cheol Woo was awarded Gold Tower Order, while Posco Senior Executive Vice President Chang-gwan Oh received Silver Tower Order and JESCO Korea Chairman Gi-won Lee received the Bronze Tower Order for their contributions to the local steel industry.
Among Posco and affiliates, commendations from the Minster of the Ministry of Knowledge Economy were received by Pohang EIC Technology Director Hyeok-il Kwon; Gwangyang Material Quality Management Team Leader Sam-yeong Hong; Manager Jae-chang Kim (Posco Mexico); and Management Innovation Group Leader Jun-gon Lee of Posco SS.
Principal Researcher Jae-ryung Lee won the Steel Technology Award, which was established in 1982 with the aim to contribute to steel development by encouraging steel makers’ creativity and R&D. Manager Man-shik Yun of Hyundai HYSCO received the Steel Function Award, while Director Seong-do Wang of SEAH Besteel and Executive Director Yeong-hak Kim of TCC Dongyang received the Steel Technology Encouragement Award, and Supervisor Byeong-rak Sohn received the Steel Function Encouragement Award. Each awardee received a certificate and prize money.
