Kocks to Supply 3-roll Reducing & Sizing Block for Xuanhua Bar Mill

08/04/2010 - Xuanhua Iron & Steel has placed an order with Friedrich Kocks GmbH & Co for the supply of a 3-roll Reducing & Sizing Block for the facility’s small bar mill, one of five new rolling mills currently under construction.

Xuanhua Iron & Steel has placed an order with Friedrich Kocks GmbH & Co KG, Germany, for the supply of a 3-roll Reducing & Sizing Block [RSB]. Xuanhua, a division of the state-owned Hebei Iron & Steel Group, is located in Zhangjiakou.
 
The Reducing & Sizing Block will be installed as part of the facility’s small bar mill, one of five new rolling mills currently under construction. The 3-roll block will be implemented behind the two-high roughing and intermediate mill, which will consist of 18 H/V stands.
 
Kocks’ scope of supply includes the 3-roll Reducing & Sizing Block with automatic quick stand changing system and remotely controlled pass and guide adjustment, as well as roll shop equipment with quick roll change and CAPAS, the computer-aided system for accurate adjustment of 3-roll-stand rolls and roller guides. Kocks will also provide supervision of erection and commissioning, as well as — for the first time — the process and equipment for thermo-mechanical rolling.
 
The “Heavy Duty” design Reducing & Sizing Block is dimensioned for the operation with four 3-roll stands and a nominal roll diameter of 370 mm. It is designed to produce straight bars within a range of 14 to 90 mm diameter at a rolling speed of 18 meters/second.
 
The new 3-roll block will significantly reduce the required number of pre-sections by allowing the rolling of one pass series in the roughing and intermediate mill. Any finished dimension within the complete dimensional range can be produced in any desired sequence with a minimum number of roll sets and stand changes. The block will employ a BAMICON bar mill configuration system for calculation of optimum adjustment values for motor speed, rolls and guides as well as gear steps, depending on the final product.
 
Commissioning of the new 3-roll Reducing & Sizing Block is scheduled for the end of 2011.
 
Xuanhua is a division of the state-owned Hebei Iron & Steel Group, which ranks among the top five Chinese steel producers. This division is located in Zhangjiakou, a city with roughly 4.5 million residents in Hebei province, approximately 100 km northwest of Beijing.
