Keystone Acquires South Carolina PC Strand Manufacturer
08/08/2016 - Keystone Consolidated Industries Inc. has acquired pre-stressed concrete (PC) strand maker Strand-Tech Martin Inc. for an undisclosed amount.
“We are excited to bring (Strand-Tech Martin) into the Keystone group and add PC strand to our product offerings,” said Keystone Consolidated chief executive officer Chris Armstrong in a statement.
“PC strand is complementary to the welded wire reinforcement currently manufactured by our Engineered Wire Products business and also exploits Keystone Steel & Wire’s recently completed significant upgrades to its arc shop and rod mill to produce high- carbon and cold-headed quality billet and rod.”
The company said a “significant amount” of Strand-Tech’s high-carbon rod feedstock will be sourced from Keystone Steel & Wire’s Peoria, Ill., USA, mill, but will have flexibility to buy it from a third party on an as-needed basis.
“(Keystone Steel & Wire’s) mill will provide Strand-Tech an assured supply of steel rod that meets the requirements for customer’s projects requiring ‘made in the USA’ materials, while shifting and increasing Keystone’s productive rod capacity to products utilized in concrete reinforcement and similar value-added markets,” the company said.
