JSW Steel Puts Casters, Strip Mill on Order
12/21/2017 - India’s JSW Steel Ltd. has ordered a new hot strip mill and two continuous slab casters for its Dolvi plant in Maharashtra as a part of a project that will double the integrated plant’s capacity to 10 million metric tons annually.
According to Primetals Technologies, which won the order, the dual 2-strand casters and strip mill will be able to produce carbon structural steel, high-quality carbon steel, low alloy steel, DP and TRIP grades, high-strength, low-alloy grades, and API grades up to X70.
Primetals Technologies said the two bow casters will have straight molds outfitted with its SmartMold technology. They will be able cast slabs in thicknesses of 220 mm and widths ranging from 900 to 1,650 mm.
The strip mill will be able to produce sheet in the same widths and in thicknesses of between 1.5 and 16 mm. It will consist of one roughing stand with edger, a crop shear, a 7-stand finishing mill, three down coilers and a pallet conveyor. Four of the finishing mill stands will be equipped with cross roll technology.
In addition to the equipment, Primetals Technologies will supply the basic and process automation packages and drives and motors for the rolling line. It also will supervise installation and commissioning.
