JSW Steel Plans EUR143 Million Investment in Italian Rail Mill
03/07/2024 - JSW Steel has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Italy to restart a steel facility in Piombino, the company has announced.
According to JSW, the EUR143 million plan is to double the facility’s rail-making capacity, taking it from 300,000 metric tons to 600,000 metric tons, and potentially installing a tandem mill, a head hardening facility and increase production capabilities to allow for 120 m lengths.
“The investments at Piombino are aimed at making the rail mill more efficient, most modern, technologically advanced and best in class,” the company said, adding that the MOU provides a four-month window to execute a program agreement.
“The Italian steel industry is undergoing a transformative stage. JSW Steel Italy’s investments to modernize the Piombino Steelworks site reiterates our commitment to partner the Italian government’s effort in the growth and economic development of the region,” said Sajjan Jindal, JSW Group chairman.
