JSW Steel Awards Converter Shop Contract

In a statement, SMS said the order calls for two 350-ton basic oxygen furnaces, two 350-ton ladle furnaces and a 350-ton RH top vacuum recirculation degassing facility.

The order also includes include two primary waste-gas cleaning systems with a dry dust collection system and a secondary waste-gas cleaning system for the converters, ladle furnaces and the RH facility.

"In order to increase energy efficiency, the converter shop is equipped with two heat recovery systems for generating steam from the waste heat of the converter primary gas. Furthermore, thanks to the installed gas extraction technology, a volume of more than 400 million cubic meters of converter waste gas per year can be used to replace other fossil fuels for energy generation," the company said.

SMS group will design and build the equipment, provide the electrical and automation systems, and supervise installation and commissioning.

Commissioning is to occur in 2019.

JSW earlier this year said it will invest the equivalent of about US$2.3 billion to double the steel works’ capacity from 5 million to 10 million metric tons. The expansion is to be completed in 2020.
