JSW Reports Highest-Ever Quarterly Production in Fiscal 4th Quarter
04/08/2009 - JSW Steel produced 1,106,000 tonnes of crude steel during the fiscal fourth quarter ended March 2009, reflecting an 11% increase over the prior-year fourth quarter.
JSW Steel achieved its highest-ever production—1,106,000 tonnes of crude steel—during the fiscal fourth quarter ended March 2009, reflecting an 11% increase over the prior-year fourth quarter. That total included trial production of 139,000 tonnes of crude steel from the recently commissioned expansion project at Vijayanagar Works.
The company noted that crude steel production of 456,000 tonnes in March 2009 was 28% higher than March 2008, and 39% higher, sequentially, over February 2009.
For fiscal year 2008-09, the company produced 3,864,000 tonnes of crude steel, reflecting a growth of 7% over the previous year in spite of temporary production cuts in November and December 2008 due to the unprecedented down-turn in the global economy.
The company also produced 825,000 tonnes of flat rolled coils and plate, reflecting a 6% increase in fiscal 2008-09, as well as 134,000 tonnes of long products, a 39% increase vs. the previous fiscal year (2007-08).
The company commissioned India’s largest Blast Furnace in February 2009, forming part of the expansion to 6.8 MTPA at Vijayanagar works. The company also commissioned its 900,000-tonne Bar Mill in March 2009.
