JP Steel Plantech, Siemens VAI Cooperate on Endless Rolling Technology

JP Steel Plantech Co. of Japan and Siemens VAI Metals Technologies s.r.l. of Italy have entered into a new cooperation in the field of endless rolling technology based on Steel Plantech’s proprietary EBROS® technology.

EBROS (Endless Bar Rolling System) is designed for continuous on-line welding and joining of hot billets as they are transferred directly from continuous casters or reheating furnaces to the rolling mill, allowing efficient manufacture of bars, wire rods, and shapes via uninterrupted rolling. According to Steel Plantech, EBROS results in a substantial increase in productivity, material yields, and plant utilization factor, as well as consistent product quality.

Under the new license agreement, Siemens VAI confirmed that its ERT technology is based on EBROS, opening the possibility for broader cooperation between the companies. Under the new EBROS license, Siemens VAI s.r.l. will be allowed to combine EBROS with its own developments and market this technology under the new trade name ERT-EBROS.

Steel Plantech and its other licensees will continue to offer the original EBROS system, as well as its own further developments of the technology.
