Jindal Steel Orders Rebar Mill from SMS Meer
05/23/2014 - Jindal Steel & Power Limited (JSPL) based in New Delhi, India, has placed an order with SMS Meer for the supply of a rebar mill. The new mill will be installed at JSPL’s Angul works in the state of Odisha.
The mill has an annual capacity of 1.4 million tons. The reheating furnace is designed for high capacity and can heat 245 tons of billets per hour which will be rolled into bars with diameters from 8 to 40 millimeters.
The billets are produced by a continuous casting machine (CCM) supplied by SMS Concast.
SMS Meer will supply to JSPL a rolling mill with 14 housingless (HL) rolling stands in three different types: vertical, horizontal and convertible. JSPL will also be provided with two eight-stand finishing blocks and a high-speed delivery system HSD® enabling JSPL to roll material at speeds of 45 meters per second.
“With this mill Jindal Steel & Power will considerably increase its capacities also in the field of rebar production. Thanks to the technologies of SMS Meer, our production will be both environmentally-friendly and cost-effective,“ says V.R. Sharma, CEO and deputy managing director, Steel-Business, JSPL.
Furthermore, SMS Meer will supply an electrical and automation package that includes level-1 and level-2 process control. The automation ensures reliable production, allowing JPSL to meet all market demands.
Commissioning is scheduled for November 2015.
