According to Primetals Technologies, the follow-on order arises from a contract to build a new sintering plant, which is to come on-line in the fourth quarter of 2019. The plant, designated as the No. 3 sintering plant, is being designed with a capacity of 4.8 million metric tons annually.

Primetals Technologies said the scrubber is an adsorbent injection-type, dry-gas system built on its MEROS technology. The technology involves injection of adsorption and desulfurizing agents, such as activated carbon and sodium bicarbonate, into the offgas flow.

“This efficiently binds and removes heavy metals, harmful and hazardous organic components, as well as sulfur dioxide and other acidic gases. The use of sodium bicarbonate to reduce the amount of sulfur dioxide also eliminates the need for a conditioning reactor,” the company said in a statement.

Primetals Technologies will be responsible for the engineering and delivery of key components. It also will provide advisory services during the cold and hot commissioning.
