JFE, Marubeni-Itochu Receive Orders for Chevron Gorgon Project
01/29/2010 - JFE Steel Corp. and Marubeni-Itochu Steel Inc. have been awarded two line pipe orders for the Gorgon Natural Gas Project operated by Chevron Australia Pty Ltd.
JFE Steel Corp. and Marubeni-Itochu Steel Inc. have been awarded two line pipe orders for the Gorgon Natural Gas Project operated by Chevron Australia Pty Ltd.
The companies will supply 154,000 tonnes of DNV450 Grade line pipe for the Gorgon and Jansz Export Flowlines, and 18,000 tonnes of DNV450 Grade line pipe for the Gorgon Domestic Gas Line.
The Gorgon Project is operated by the Australian subsidiary of Chevron (about 47%) in joint venture with the Australian subsidiaries of ExxonMobil (25%) and Shell (25%), Osaka Gas (1.25%), Tokyo Gas (1%), and Chubu Electric (0.417%).
The Gorgon Project is developing the Greater Gorgon gas fields, located between 130 and 200 km off the northwest coast of Western Australia. The gas fields are estimated to contain resources of about 40 trillion cubic feet of gas, Australia’s largest-known gas resource.
The large-diameter line pipes supplied for this project will be used for long-distance, sub-sea pipeline; therefore, they must meet low-temperature toughness requirements and have heavy wall thickness (max. 38.0 mm) sufficient to withstand operations under high pressure, along with anti-corrosive properties.
