Japanese Steelmaker Says It Has Created a New Steel That's 25% Stronger
07/07/2016 - Japan’s Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corp. says it has developed an automotive sheet steel with a tensile strength of 1,470 megapascals, stronger than any similar product on the market at present, reports the Nikkei Asian Review magazine.
According to the magazine, the new steel, which is undergoing verification testing, has applications in frames, chassis and other components that call for high-strength and low-weight materials. The steel is to be rolled out in 2020.
