Japan Prime Minister Hopes for Positive Outcome to U. S. Steel Acquisition

Speaking during a joint press conference with President Joe Biden on Wednesday, Kishida said Japan continues to hope that discussion around the sale will unfold in positive ways for both sides.

“Japan believes that appropriate procedures, based on law, are being implemented by the U.S. government. Japan is the largest investor to the United States. Japanese businesses employ close to 1 million workers in the United States. Investment from Japan to the U.S. can only increase upwards in the months and years to come. And we wish to cement this win-win relationship,” he said.

Biden told reporters he continues to support American workers — as well as the U.S. relationship with Japan.

“And with regard to that, I stand by our commitment to our alliance. This is exactly what we're doing,” he said.
