Italian Steelmaker Ramps Up Record-Breaking Tenova EAF
10/02/2020 - Italy’s Acciaieria Arvedi has started up a new a Tenova Consteel electric arc furnace (EAF) and has begun ramping up the unit, reports the furnace’s builder, Tenova.
According to Tenova, the furnace is the most productive EAF ever built, with a tapping size of 300 metric tons and a power-on time of 37 minutes. Tenova said the output was made possible by combining its proprietary Consteel® continuous charging and melting technology and an innovative electromagnetic stirring system that was jointly developed with ABB.
The furnace shell is 9.1 m in diameter and is continuously fed by a 4-m Consteel® slip-stick conveyor.
“We are currently proceeding with a very quick ramp-up phase. After just a few days from the start-up, the furnace is already operating on three shifts achieving high production rate and performances,” said Tenova senior vice president Silvio Reali.
