Italian Steelmaker Accepts Furnace Efficiency Upgrade
10/09/2015 - Italy’s Industrie Riunite Odolesi SpA has signed off on upgrades to an electric arc furnace, the vendor on the project has announced.
The vendor, Tenova Goodfellow Inc., installed its Intelligent Electric Arc Furnace system (iEAF) on a 70-ton top-charge furnace, improving its efficiency, it said.
Tenova’s iEAF is a modular technology package that uses dynamic real-time mass and energy balance to reduce furnace consumption levels while increasing yield and productivity.
After installing the system, electricity consumption was reduced by 3.26 percent, oxygen consumption was reduced by 4.31 percent, and charge carbon by 6.64 percent. Also, natural gas usage declined 2.05 percent.
Headquartered in Mississauga, Ont., Canada, Tenova Goodfellow is the Center of Excellence for process control technology development within Tenova.
