Italian Mill Orders Remotely Operated Taphole Equipment
10/13/2017 - Italy’s Acciaierie Bertoli Safau has ordered an equipment package that will eliminate the need to man the eccentric bottom taphole sump panel.
In a supplier announcement, MORE said the special steel maker will install its EBT SAND system on its 100-ton DC electric arc furnace. The system, which consists of a slag-breaking device, an internal sand hopper and a high-resolution taphole inspection camera, eliminates the need to station someone at the sump panel.
MORE said that with the system, taphole inspection and sand charging operations can be carried from the safety of a control room or tapping pulpit.
The new system is to be installed sometime before the end of the year.
