Italian Government Launches Examination of Ilva Bidding
07/25/2018 - The Italian government has opened a review into the bidding process for Ilva and could potentially rescind its agreement to sell the business to ArcelorMittal, reports Kallanish Commodities.
“Following internal checks on the Ilva dossier and the opinion provided by the (country’s anti-corruption body), there exist the conditions to start an administrative procedure aimed at the possible cancellation of the tender award in compliance with the decree of 5 June 2017,” said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development Luigi Di Maio, according to Kallanish.
Meanwhile, Di Maio is also pressuring ArcelorMittal to improve its offer for the business, particularly with respect to the number of people the business will employ, according to the Reuters news service.
“We will pursue these two paths in parallel because we must be ready for all eventualities,” said Di Maio, according to Reuters.
