Italian Company Bags Orders for Three New Furnaces

In a statement, the company said it will be supplying a walking beam furnace to Nucor’s Kankakee bar mill in Illinois, where it is installing a new merchant bar rolling mill. With a capacity of 91 metric tons an hour, the furnace will feed into the mill.

This is the third Forni Industriali Bendotti furnace Nucor has ordered, the company said.

Across the border in Canada, ArcelorMittal Long Products Canada will be installing two 130-metric-ton walking beam furnaces for its Contrecœur West and Contrecœur East plants. The Contrecœur West furnace will feed an existing rebar and SBQ rolling mill, and the Contrecoeur East furnace will supply the existing wire rod mill.

The furnaces are a part of a capital project that aims to boost ArcelorMittal's long products rolling capacity in Canada by 100,000 metric tons.

ArcelorMittal already has five Bendotti furnaces in use.

“The walking beam has been the most popular choice since Bendotti started to pre-fabricate this type of furnace. Pre-fabrication has been Bendotti’s prerogative since 1967 -- it is a highly valuable construction method that has allowed the Italian company to acquire a position of leadership in the sector,” the company said.

Forni Industriali Bendotti specializes in pre-fabricated reheat and heat treatment furnaces.
