Jan. 27, 2004 — Ispat Inland Inc. has named Michael G. Rippey Executive Vice President—Commercial. Rippey, 46, takes direct responsibility for all sales and marketing at the company following the retirement of Stephen L. Rogers, Vice President—Sales and Marketing, who formerly reported to Rippey. Rippey also will continue in his current role as Chief Financial Officer.

A 19-year veteran of Ispat Inland and its predecessor, Inland Steel Co., Rippey has had a career of increasingly responsible assignments. He has a bachelor's degree in marketing from Indiana University, Bloomington; a masters in banking and finance from Loyola University, Chicago; and an MBA from the University of Chicago.

John L. Brett, the company's Controller, advances to Vice President—Finance, and Controller. Brett, 38, joined the company in 1988. He was promoted to Manager of Financial Analysis in 1995 and to Controller in 1998. He moved in 1999 to the finance organization of Ryerson Tull Inc., which like Inland Steel Co. had been a subsidiary of the former Inland Steel Industries. After a year in acquisitions at Ryerson Tull, he returned to Ispat Inland as Controller in 2000.

He is a magna cum laude graduate of DePauw University, Greencastle, Ind., with a major in economics and minors in psychology and sociology. He earned an MBA in finance and accounting from the University of Chicago.
