Interruption of Operations at Severstal Columbus

OAO Severstal reports that electrical power was interrupted at the company’s Columbus plant in Mississippi as a result of the severe storm earlier this week.

The company was able to use back-up power to execute an orderly shut-down of operations.

The company noted that all employees are safe, and that there was no storm damage to the building or equipment.

Since the service interruption, a minimal power supply has been restored to run some finishing operations, but the supply has not been sufficient for the whole plant to restart yet. The company said it would continue to provide updates as the situation develops and there is more certainty regarding timing of the restart.
