Interpipe Announces Start of Steel Billet Sales
10/25/2013 - Ukraine’s Interpipe Co. announced the launch of sales of steel billets which are produced by Interpipe Steel’s electric steel-melting complex.
The innovative mill, commissioned in 2012, produces round continuously cast billets for pipe and wheel steel grades with 150–470mm diameter in range. The Interpipe Steel production range includes major carbon and alloyed steel grades for pipe products, for example steel grades Х42 - Х80 and from H40 to Q125, as well as transport steel ER6, ER7, ER8, ER9 and analogues. The mill is also currently mastering steel grades A350 LF2 and 42CrMo4 for production of flanges and rings.
Interpipe’s pipe and wheel production facilities are major consumers of Interpipe Steel products.
The mill has already shipped trial lots of ER7 steel grade billets to leading manufacturers of railway products in Spain, the Czech Republic and Germany, and EA1N and ОС steel grade billets for a Ukrainian axle producer.
Fadi Hraibe, Interpipe chief commercial officer commented: “Interpipe Steel is now reaching its designed production rates and can, not only provide high-quality steel billets to the company’s production facilities, but can also start deliveries to other customers. Mastering the steel billet market is a key ambition for our Company’s development.”
In June this year Interpipe Steel melted its millionth ton of steel billets. The mill’s total production in the first nine months of 2013 reached approximately 900 thousand tons of steel.
Interpipe is an international vertically integrated pipe and wheel company, producer of steel pipes and railway wheels. The company’s products are marketed in more than 80 countries around the world via a network of sales offices located in Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Europe, the USA, and the Middle East.
In 2012 the company’s mills produced more than 1.2 million tons of pipe and wheel products.
Interpipe Steel is the first metallurgical plant built in Ukraine for almost a half a century. Considering its level of technologies, labor conditions, and environmental protection standards, it obviously represents a new phase in the industry development. Total volume of investments has amounted to US$700 million.
Interpipe Steel is the key project for Interpipe, designed to provide the Company’s pipe and wheel production with its own steel billets. When the mill reaches its designed capacity rate of 1.32 million tons a year, the self-sufficiency in billets for Interpipe production facilities will rise to 90%.
