Integrated Mill Systems Plays Key Part in Revamp of ArcelorMittal Cleveland

Eric Hauge, vice president & general manager, ArcelorMittal Cleveland recently said of the mill: “ArcelorMittal Cleveland is emerging as a global center of excellence for the production of advanced high strength steels that are critical to future automotive fuel efficiency. At the forefront of this innovation is the facility’s hot dip galvanizing line, which is fed by two steelmaking operations, including the recently restarted #2 steel producing facility on the west bank of the River. Investments of more than US$70 million this year alone help to secure ArcelorMittal Cleveland’s position as a leader in the industry while helping to position northeast Ohio as one of the nation’s strongest, most innovative manufacturing centers.”

IMS has contributed to this facility’s record setting feat with the total automation upgrade of the hot rolling mill, HSM starting with slab depiler and furnace pusher drives, continuing through the roughing and finishing mills all the way to the coiler pulpit desks.

To further increase capabilities IMS recently finished its drives and automation upgrade of the ArcelorMittal Cleveland Works tandem cold mill on time and budget. Production goals were met after a total revamp of drives and level 1 controls during a two week shutdown.
