Inspiring a Generation: Worldsteel Launches Short Films Showcasing Careers in Steel Industry

The three short films, produced by worldsteel and its members, bring to life the world’s contemporary steel industry, which offers exciting and varied career opportunities to more than 2 million people across the world.

worldsteel will launch the film campaign on YouTube, on its Facebook page, Twitter feed, Weibo page, Tudou page and website from Sao Paulo, where steel companies and associations across the world will join together for their annual conference.

worldsteel director general Edwin Basson said, “The steel industry has come a long way in recent years, and today’s modern industry is very different from that of the past. Our members employ millions of people around the world, and these employees are using their highly specialized skills to develop innovative new technologies and production methods that will shape the way we live our daily lives from the cars we drive, to the buildings we live, work and play in.”

“To continue the long history of technology innovations and manufacturing developments from the revolutionary steel-making process invented by Sir Henry Bessemer in the 19th century to the compact strip production of today, we hope that the passion and enthusiasm of those who work in the industry shared in these short films will inspire the steel leaders of tomorrow.”

The #lovesteel film launch is the third phase of worldsteel’s digital campaign to inspire young people to think differently about a career in the steel industry. The films follow a Twitter debate between steel industry leaders and a Facebook photo competition to celebrate Steel in Your Life earlier this year.

The first three films are the beginning of a series of short videos; worldsteel members will be invited to add to the collection with their own films to continue the campaign.
