Indian Steelmakers Urge Government to Extend Import Price Floor
07/28/2016 - Indian steelmakers are pressing the government to retain the import price floor it imposed on 173 steel products earlier this year, arguing that it has helped hold back a flood of low-cost steel and improved margins.
“(The minimum import price) has benefitted the domestic steel industry," PK Singh, chairman of the Steel Authority of India Ltd, told The (India) Economic Times.
The newspaper said that the government is thinking about extending the price floor, but it may reduce the number of steel products the floor pertains to.
