Indian Coking Coal Demand Poised for Significant Increase
06/23/2016 - India’s coking coal demand is likely to increase by 45 percent by 2020 as the country looks to expand its steel production, according to The (India) Economic Times.
Citing a report by PwC-ICC, the newspaper said domestic producers will need nearly 96 million metric tons by the beginning of the next decade, when its crude steel capacity is forecast to reach 173 million metric tons, the newspaper said.
About two-thirds of the steel sector's coal consumption is currently met through imports.
India plans to increase its crude steel capacity to 300 million metric tons by 2025.
